As the curtain came down after an intense two-week Plenary session in Midrand, the African legislators adopted various resolutions that include holding the first ordinary session of the fifth parliament of the PAP in a member state (Kigali, Rwanda in October 2018), achieving health targets and leaving no one behind, mainstreaming nutrition and food systems in Africa.

The Clerk of Parliament, Mr. Vipya Harawa also read out resolutions on winning the fight against corruption: A sustainable path to Africa’s transformation, the African continental free trade area and free movement of persons, right of residence and right of establishment, resolution on persons with albinism in Africa, and the establishment of the Pan African Parliament desk on climate change.

Addressing delegates at the official closing ceremony of the 6th ordinary session of the 4th parliament that was held in Midrand, South Africa, Pan African Parliament (PAP) president Hon. Roger Nkodo Dang urged legislators to unite for Africa to attain its mission of conquering its challenges.

The Pan African Parliament has 275 members representing the 55 AU Member States that have ratified the Protocol establishing it.  “When you return to your countries let us try to unite our African people,” said Hon Roger Nkodo Dang.

“The just ended session made me reflect on many things. There is still a lot that we need to do as Africa. Yes, we are slowly moving towards democratizing our continent, but we still have a lot more to do than we are doing,” alluded Hon. Dang who also declared his gratefulness  to the MPs who came to participate in all our business.

“I would like to see all countries in our continent that have elections this year learning from the democratic processes that we experienced here when we held elections in our respective countries. The way we conducted ourselves was much applauded by everyone and now let all our governments adopt what we did. Let all our African legislators be the agitators of the much desired democracy within our continent,” the PAP President concluded.

The just ended session saw at least eighty parliamentarians being sworn in as new members of the PAP. This follows general elections in a number of African States and rotation within national delegations.
