The Bishops began by confirming that it is a socio-political problem rocking the two regions and expressed their deep concerns.
They said since 2016, the two regions have been going through difficult times, “Marked by inhuman, blind, monstrous violence and radicalization of positions which leaves us worried.”
The Bishops said they are stand in solidarity with all victims and are praying hard for them but they noted that they drew attention to the crisis which jeopardizes people and their properties.
The Bishops think it is time for mediation to end the impasse, the communiqué partially reads, “In the name God the Almighty Father, we address this cry of distress to all Cameroonians: Let us put an end, all forms of violence and stop killing one another! We are all brothers and sisters…”
According to the Bishops, the war is useless and senseless.
The Catholic Church in Cameroon was recently described as weak in handling the Anglophone crisis by International Crisis group following an investigation on the situation.
This is the first time Bishops of both languages are coming to terms with an aggressive but frank position on the Anglophone crisis.
Bishops of the Bamenda Ecclesiastical Province had previously written a missive to President Paul Biya explaining the genesis of the problems and proposing solution while NECC has all along been on the fence.
