The President of North West Lawyers Association, Barrister Bobga Harmony, now based in the US due to ongoing strike action has revealed that the Cameroon Government is committing serious crimes on daily basis and goes unaccounted because of Internet blackout.

The man who escaped from being arrested spoke to Femi Oke, host of a Television program on Aljazeera TV called The Stream, saying that the situation is bad comparing it to what happened in Rwanda.

The legal mind who was making his second appearance on the program in two months said people are now arrested and taken away with their families unable to find out where they are taken to. He said “It is tipping into the point where the population is saying that even with their empty hands and sticks, they can are ready to start providing resistance to protect themselves.”

According to him, the media and internet blackout is making it very difficult to verify these claims because there is no easy access to information anymore in the regions.

He said people are now using their smart phones to send information including pictures, videos and messages by travelling to French-speaking parts of Cameroon but it is not as smooth as before.

In the same light unconfirmed reports have it that some policemen in North West and South West sent to maintain peace are now arresting and extorting money from their ‘captives’ threatening to take them to the police station if they do not comply.

The fate of students is still undecided as officials of Cameroon GCE Board maintain that the examinations will still hold after all. Registration for the exercise ends this Tuesday February 28, 2017.
