Suspected armed separatist fighters are said to have buried a woman alive in a neighbourhood in Kumba, Meme division of the South West region.

Reports say local authorities are mobilizing to embark on a search for the woman’s body and plan to exhume her corpse. As for now, the victim has not been identified but locals say she was buried alive in Kosala neighbourhood in Kumba.

This comes few hours after the Senior Divisional Officer of Meme announced that a notorious armed separatist fighter had been killed by government forces in a gun exchange in Kumba.

His announcement was also confirmed by a separatist leader based in the United States, who took to his facebook page to announce that ‘General Fada Fada’, had been neutralized.

Civil society activists and gender groups have began fuming on social media about the burial of the said lady, which they regret attacks on women in the face of ongoing socio-political violence in the Anglophone regions, have greatly increased.

There was a similar incident in Batibo subdivision where armed separatists were accused of burying another woman whom they consider a spy. This allegation was refuted by separatist leaders who said it was a government step to derail the international community.

However, several nations and international bodies have called on both separatists and government forces to restrain from committing crimes related to humanity. These calls have often fallen on deaf ears as reports on civilians multiply in the concerned areas.
