They carried their mattresses, shouting out for state authorities to free them (prisoners of conscience), as a measure to reinforce advocacy for back-to-school.
“ We recognize the importance of education as spelt out by Article 26 of the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights, however, children have not been spared from the patterns of violence, they have often been deliberately targeted or insufficiently protected or both”, they said.
While calling for an immediate ceasefire to the hostilities plaguing the Anglophone regions and demilitarisation of soldiers, they want to “Assist in the safe return of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), Refugees scattered all over Africa and the reconstruction of burnt down homes and villages.
They further asked government to “release of all political prisoners jailed in the various detention centers in Cameroun amongst which are teachers, students and parents so that they can partake in the school resumption 2019/2020 Academic year”, said the group in a statement. They also suggest the reconstruction and rehabilitation of destroyed educational infrastructures.
They request that government should grant amnesty should be granted to all Anglophones and set up immediate program for inclusive dialogue mediated by foreign parties.
Their demonstration this afternoon was stopped by other prisoners.
