On June 29, 2019, Cameroon’s Minister of Communication Rene Emmanuel Sadi condemned the double demonstrations staged by members of the “Brigade Anti-Sardinards” in Geneva, Switzerland Tuesday June 25 and Saturday June 29, 2019.

The Minister frowned at members of the “illegal” group displaying “unpatriotic behaviour” and trying to rub the country in mud.

“The government of the republic expresses the indignation of the entire Nation and strongly denounces such inadmissible behaviour likely to tarnish Cameroon’s image, and which should be condemned by all beyond any consideration,” Saturday’s ministerial release read in part.

Minister Sadi enjoins Cameroonians to respect President Paul Biya who incarnates the institution of state. He said President Biya is neither the president of any group nor tribe nor political formation, but the President of all Cameroonians and as such should earn the respect of the all Cameroonians.

“Any Cameroonian, whoever they may be, wherever they may come from, no matter their political leanings must respect the institutions…consequently the one who embodies the said institutions…,” Sadi said as he denounced the “unspeakable hostility and aggressiveness against the one who…is presiding over the destiny of the Cameroonian Nation”.

Nevertheless, Sadi hailed the “patriotic attitude” of some other Cameroonians in the diaspora who according to him “distance themselves from such shameful acts.”

On Tuesday June 25, members of the Brigade Anti-Sardinards attempted to break into a Geneva-based hotel in Switzerland, where President Paul Biya and wife Chantal Biya are reported to be holidaying.

On Saturday June 29, they once more took to the streets of Geneva before being called to order by the Swiss police.

BAS makes tough demands

In a document on social media believed to have been done in Paris and dated July 1, 2019, Calibri Calibro who says he is the Commander in Chief of the Brigade Anti-Sardinards gave out eight reasons why they are organizing mass anti-Biya regime protests.

He said their communiqué is in response to the regime of President Paul Biya that had through the Minister of Communication asked to know the demands of the Brigade Anti-Sardinards.

Calibri Calibro says the demands of the Brigade Anti-Sardinards are eight in number namely:

“The immediate end of the war in the North West and South West Regions;

“The immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners at the head of which is Prof. Maurice Kamto and his allies;

“The immediate and unconditional release of all members and sympathizers of the MRC – Cameroon Renaissance Movement;

“The immediate and unconditional release of all those imprisoned because they took part in the marches of January 26, June 1 and June 8, 2019;

“The release of all those imprisoned as a result of the Anglophone Crisis at the head of which is Sisiku Ayuk Julius Tabe;

“The liberation of all activists, journalists and artists – Paul Chouta, Essama Andre Blaise, Valsero, Sakne, Raymond Anama Jules and others;

“The organization of an inclusive national dialogue with all political actors, the civil society and the military in a bid to end the Anglophone Crisis;

“And lastly, the unconditional resignation of Paul Biya.”
