The conveners of Anglophone General Conference (AGC), held a meeting at the Saint Peter and Paul Cathedral in Douala on Tuesday June 25, although they remain uncertain when the event will take place.

A conference that was billed for October last year, is yet to be decided when it will hold. However, they are sure about the conference holding in the Anglophone regions, although the date remains confusing. Thousands of Anglophones had been mobilised for the said project, but are gradually loosing interest, due to the continuous postponement of the event.

However, conveners have been meeting in Douala, to strategise on how to get all on deck, ahead of the conference. Tuesday’s celebrations were chaired by His Eminence Christian Cardinal Tumi. Tuesday's meeting is a follow up to the first held a week ago, where the conveners reviewed recent sociopolitical developments that have engulfed the two English-speaking regions of Cameroon.

The main objective of the meeting was to study in detail, a research that the AGC launched to have the opinion of the grassroots of the Anglophone regions. The AGC had authoritatively carried out a well researched finding from the 13 divisions of the North West and South West Regions and have been working on a document on the current crisis, which they say will be handed over to the government on completion.

The spokes person of the Anglophone General Conference, Elie Smith, revealed they were not ready to make pronouncements on the exact date the conference will hold, because they weren't certain about it.

“We don't want to make the same mistake we committed last time, give a date and not being able to respect. We also have plans to meet the authorities of this country and we think the head of government Joseph Dion Ngute, is the most appropriate at this point in time to present to him our working document", said Elie.

He reiterated the necessity to end the Anglophone crisis, now through dialogue, adding that an African problem must be solved by Africans and not outsiders, thus Cameroonians should solve their own problems.
