Celebrations of the 34th anniversary of Cameroon People Democratic Movement(CPDM), has come to an end in Cameroon, with most Elites of the party, carrying out philanthropic activities to mark the day. It was an occasion for sons and daughters of the Littoral region, to win over the hearts of sympathisers, as the country prepares to host the triple elections, this year.

The New Bell District Hospital today looks modernised, thanks to the efforts of the parliamentarian for Wouri South, Honourable Joseph Owona Kono, through his non-governmental organisation, Active Solidarity.

Apart from transforming the outer look of the said hospital, the MP provided equipment for the dentistry department, renovated toilets, and provided a computerised system of the hospital’s activities, in order to keep data for future use.

The restitution ceremony of these works, took place at the hospital on Saturday March 23, on the heels of activities marking the CPDM anniversary, celebrated every 24th of March.
The hospital management committee, Mayor of Douala 2, Dénise Fampou said the state of the hospital had been terrible especially to the increasing needs of patients. She thanked the MP for taking health as his priority while recalling that First Lady Chantal Biya has made several offers to the hospital in the past.

"This gift that we receive today, will definitely provide a suitable framework for all patients. You were not there yet, but the First Lady gave donations to this hospital, through African Synergies. The administration should make these donations available to you”, commented Mayor Fambou

She was also responding to the Director of the hospital, who seemed to have little knowledge about the history of donations in his courtyard.

Dr. Albert Mambo Maka had earlier mentioned that the general hygiene of the hospital has improved, especially with the renovation of the toilets, the laying of slabs throughout the yard, new layers of paint on all buildings , the purchase of garbage cans, monthly rat control missions, and the creation of a health committee.

" In addition to these achievements, thanks to the Honorable Kono, we were able to obtain more than thirty beds, a panoramic dental exam, a dental chair, several air conditioners, several fans”, stated Dr Maka.
Since 2017, Active Solidarity of Honourable Joseph Owona Kono, has undertaken the rehabilitation of the Newbell district hospital.

More than 3000 people live in Newbell, Douala. There’s an unexpected increase following the influx of persons from crisis hit regions in Cameroon.
