The government of Cameroon has embarked on a mission to produce highly refined chocolate, with international standards, in order to meet up with demands in the global market.

This follows recent improvement in the production of Cameroonian cocoa beans, which is gradually winning the hearts of international producers.

The information was made known on Saturday, June 22 in Yaoundé by the Secretary General of the French Chocolate Federation, Christophe Bertrand, as chocolate producers from Cameroon and France converged at Mont Febe Hotel in Yaoundé to commemorate the second edition of Fine Chocolate Day.

It was an opportunity for producers from both Cameroon and France to asses the quality of chocolate produced in Cameroon, comparing it to that produced in France and some other African countries, as well as make recommendations.

After tasting the chocolate made in Cameroon, Christophe Bertrand said chocolate made out of Cameroonian cocoa bean has always been the best amongst other cocoa beans imported, whenever he organisers a chocolate tasting event in France. Customers always prefer Cameroonian cocoa bean, which he says would attract more investors in Cameroon.

“Two years ago, it was not high reputation but now the Cameroon's chocolate is very interesting. If we, the French start to speak about Cameroon cocoa, we are sure that Japanese people will start to see what's happening in France, we are sure that the Americans people will inquire what is going on in Cameroon. Cameroonians are doing good cocoa, so maybe they would come and visit Cameroon”, said Christophe.

The Minister of Trade Luc Magloire Mbarga Atanga, while presiding over the event, encouraged local chocolate producers and assured them of government's support in achieving their goals.
