Gun men, suspected to be armed separatists stormed the school campus on Latani Street, Fianngo-Kumba, taking along these two teachers and the pupil. Reports say they left the campus with the abductees, and headed towards Kosala neighbourhood.
The abductors took the phone of one of their captors to call the school proprietor, demanding a ransom of FCFA 6 million. They claimed four million was to buy them guns, while two million is a penalty on the school for resuming classes.
This incident comes one week after two persons were shot dead and one wounded around Farm Road Street in Kumba, following an attempt by gunmen to kidnap the owner of a cocoa shop.
For three years, Anglophone separatists have successfully implemented a school boycott, as they used threats and physical attacks on schools, pupils, teachers and parents, to make it effective.
Thousands of families are said to have moved out of Kumba, to safe areas in the country, in order to pick up their economic activities and send their children to school.
As compared to last year, school attendance in the restive North West and South West regions have drastically dropped due to increased violence.
Despite the fact that Cameroon engaged in peace talks recently, there have been no positive change in the violence as crimes continue to amount.
