The security network around Professor Maurice Kamto, National President of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement, CRM, is becoming aggressive, the Secretary General of the party, Barrister Ndong Christopher has said.

In a statement Sunday, Ndong said Kamto, his allies and members of the CRM have been the target of “police provocations” since the February 26, 2020 mass rally in Douala.

“The security network around the President-elect, Maurice Kamto, the allies, CRM officials and militants, since the tremendous reception in Deido on February 26, 2020 organised to commend the historic presidential tour abroad and the landslide victory of the boycott during the February 9 twin elections is gradually becoming aggressive,” Ndong said.

“Security forces are breaking into homes to threaten the wives of our militants including attacking their children.”

The CRM Secretary General says “it is time for the country’s security forces to pull themselves together and withdraw from the political arena. State terror and repression maintained in a demonstrative manner, are not the paths of wisdom that the chaotic situation in Cameroon commands, simply because of a man’s thirst for power.”

“By terror and state repression,” Ndong says, “the illegal regime of Mr. Paul Biya rather multiplies the chances of igniting the whole country after having started an unjustified civil war in the two English-speaking regions.”

Ndong in his statement says they are inviting the international community to take note of the “provocations” aimed at Kamto, CRM allies and supporters ever since the party’s show of “popular force” both in the diaspora and at home.

Cameroon-Info.Net recalls that Professor Maurice Kamto, National President of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement, CRM, returned to the country in the evening hours of Tuesday, February 25 and addressed a massive rally in Douala Wednesday, February 26.

The opposition leader, whose supporters believe he won the October 7, 2018 presidential elections, left the country late in January to meet and commune with his supporters abroad, especially after the elections of October 2018 and his release from detention in October 2019.

He returned home after holding two huge rallies in Paris, France on February 1, 2020 and in Washington DC last February 9, 2020.  He also held talks with influential officials in France and the US.

He is also said to have appeared at the International Court of Justice at The Hague last week where he defended Equatorial Guinea in a case pitting the latter with France over the alleged ill-gotten possessions of Teodoro Obiang.

Having called for a boycott of the February 9 twin elections before his departure to Europe, Maurice Kamto used the Deido rally to express satisfaction with the reported rate of abstention which according to him was a sign that Cameroonians had manifested their rejection of President Biya’s politics.
