Cameroon – Social Inclusion: Foundation Kotto Bass Inaugurated In Douala

Although gone, relatives of late music icon, Kotto Bass have launched a foundation in Bonendale, Douala to assist persons with disabilities and restore the name, memory of the artist in the minds of Cameroonians.

Danielle Eyangi is the president of the foundation and says she has always had the urge not to see Kotto Bass die the second time by having his memory erased.

“.. Because he died too soon, he went too soon. So this foundation is here to restore his name and memory in the mind of Cameroonians. That is the main aim of the foundation”, said Ms. Eyangi

The foundation received blessings from traditional authorities of Bonendale on Saturday, June 15 in the presence of family, friends, persons with disabilities and those who still remember and love the artist. Underprivileged children with disabilities will be offered training in some thirty disciplines.

“ We have about 30 workshops that will take place here, everyday and mainly in the weekends where parents will come and drop their children for them to have fun but to learn something while having fun. They learn how to cook, they can learn computer , carpentry, music, sporting activities and so on”, reaffirmed Danielle.

The foundation has a nursery school here where parents who don't have money to send their children to school, take them there during the weekends, where some nursery school teachers are paid by the foundation to teach them. The foundation further pay school fees, medical bill of the selected children. The foundation that began operating since 2015, currently assists some 700 children. The president stressed on the fact that the foundation is not an orphanage but a structure to boost up the moral and capabilities of persons with disabilities.

Still on solidarity, she announced that after a call they received from some concerned persons, regarding the plight of internally displaced persons with disabilities from the North West and South West regions, now living in Dschang, South West region, Foundation Kotto Bass will this week visit and assist

Physically challenged Kotto Bass, according to his family died early and didn’t have that chance to effectively carry out his wish of assisting his kind. He died unexpectedly at thee of 33 . Today, his songs such as Edith, Concours de patience, Nouvelle Generation mixte and ok Bamenda ,continue to top entertainment joints in Cameroon.
