The Nigerian Federal Government has commended the Nigeria-Cameroon Mixed Commission over the peaceful implementation of the border demarcation between the two countries. The Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr Mohammed Adoke, made the remark in Yaoundé during the 31th session of the Nigeria-Cameroon Mixed Commission (CNMC). According to him, the most significant achievement of the mixed commission is ensuring that peace prevails between the border communities of Cameroon and Nigeria. "The peace and brotherly relations existing between the two countries over the past ten years have led to the return of Nigeria and Cameroon to the discussion table by ensuring restoration of the activities and the operations of the commission," he said. He added that the commission had built confidence by ensuring cordial and harmonious relations in an atmosphere of peace while boosting socio-economic activities between the two nations. Adoke noted that the success of the commission included the provision of essential facilities for the populations affected by the demarcation of the land and maritime borders between the two countries. He added that the mixed commission had also achieved success in the withdrawal and transfer of authority in the Lake Chad, in 2003 and the exchange of high level visits between the two countries. Adoke urged the Commission to fast-track the implementation of the modalities for the Trans-border security agreement signed between the countries with emphasis on Joint Border Patrol and a single unified command to provide security along the entire border.
