The Nigerian court in Igbosere, Lagos has handed over a death sentence by hanging to Cameroonian maid, Leudjoe Koyemen Joel for killing his Nigerian employer, Dayo Adeleke.

The judgement was passed by Justice Adedayo Akintole on Tuesday May 21, two years and five months after Koyemen committed the crime. The Chief Judge said the prosecution proved beyond a reasonable doubt a count of murder pressed by the state, reasons for ordering his death sentence.

Following family sources, on the night of 20th December 2016, they received news that their daughter Dayo, was brutally slaughtered in cold blood in her home by the maid. The family revealed Joel had just been employed two months prior to the murder of Dayo. The victim pitied his status as a refugee(as described by her pastor) and offered him a home.

"It is ironic that the person she employed, out of her compassion turned around and snuffed out her life in one senseless act of greed", said the family in a statement.

They continued that Joel might have been angry because Dayo didn't give him an advanced two weeks salary he asked for, earlier that morning. He insisted that Dayo should give him the money before she leaves for work. Dayo is said to have had no cash on her. Joel went into the kitchen and got a knife and stabbed his employer on the chest. Her call for help, pulled other domestic workers to the sitting room, who held Joel, as he was attempting to flee.

The murderer robbed Dayo of her marriage, motherhood and family. Dayo had just returned from the United States of America, where she was schooling, in preparation for her wedding in February 2017.
