"Marriott Group" Begins Investing in Douala

Feasibility studies for the construction of a standard international hotel have been completed.
The Vice President of the Marriott Group, Jean Marc Grosfort yesterday, May 9, disclosed that the international company has just completed the feasibility studies for the construction of a world class hotel in Douala with the construction phase expected to begin soon. He led a delegation of investors to the Star Building where the Prime Minister and Head of Government, Ephraim Inoni received them in audience. The audience was one of the highlights of the five-day working visit of officials of the European Investment Bank, New Company for Development (SNDI) and other partner companies involved in the construction of the international hotel in Douala by the MarriottGroup. The seven-member delegation are undertaking a working visit in the country that started last May 8 to end on May 12. The audience at the Star Building was therefore an opportunity for Jean Marc Grosfort to brief the Prime Minister on progress already made in the project, fallouts to the country and the city of Douala in particular. After the audience, he told journalists that the feasibility studies for the project have just been completed and the construction phase will begin soon. He stated that the different partners in the project such as investors, promoters and the construction group are meeting in Cameroon within this week. The meeting will therefore serve as a forum for them to decide when the construction of the hotel will begin. The Marriott Group Vice President made it clear that the construction of the hotel will last for between 24 to 28 months. With regard to the benefits of the project to Cameroon, he said it will be an answer to Douala’s needs today in the international market. It will therefore make the city known worldwide, attract international recognition, become a nice business destination and attract investors. The construction phase of the hotel will create jobs besides Cameroonians who will be recruited to work in it.
