With a net worth of $64 million, Cameroon Indomitable Lions Captain and Chelsea striker, Samuel Eto’o becomes the wealthiest foreign-born player of the English Premier League (EPL), according to a new survey.
The Survey indicates Chelsea Football Club currently sits in third place in the league’s standings behind Arsenal and Manchester City. However, Chelsea is in first place when it comes to supporting the wealthiest foreign-born players in the EPL.
According to a survey conducted by Singapore-based Wealth-X (a company proclaimed to be the world’s largest collection of curated research on ultra-high-net worth individuals), the wealthiest foreign-born EPL player is Chelsea striker Samuel Eto’o, who is said to have a net worth of $64 million, Forbes reported over the weekend.
Fellow Chelsea player Fernando Torres is believed to be the third-wealthiest foreign-born player in the EPL with a net worth of $42 million. Torres was born in Spain.
The second-wealthiest foreign-born player in the EPL is Ryan Giggs of Manchester United. Wealth-X claims that Giggs has a net worth of $45 million. Two Manchester City players, Yaya Toure and Sergio Aguero, round out the list of five with a net worth of $41 million and $39 million respectively.
“The results of this survey may come to a surprise for many, who may have been under the impression that foreign-born EPL players receive more rewarding compensation than their English counterparts,” said Michael Byrne, Wealth-X UK Director.
“English-born footballers in the EPL amass greater sponsorship and are therefore in a position to accumulate greater overall net worth. This run-down certainly produces more surprises than the English-born list,” he added.
