Aside the regular control of National Identity Cards along major roads and strategic locations, Cameroon’s Security Forces in Buea have intensified their search for those those who have taken up arms to fight for the independence of a state they call Ambazonia.

Reports say on Thursday, April 18, 2019, the security forces raided several homes including students’ hostels in Molyko Buea.
Same day, they are said to have stormed a start-up clinic at the ‘untarred’ Malingo Street, arrested the owner and swept away medical equipment which they took to the judicial police.

Moments after, The Post reports, rumours made rounds that the Doctor, whose Identity they have concealed, had been treating Amba Fighters. Reacting to The Post, the medical practitioner refuted the claims saying he treats only minor cases, adding that he has never treated any Amba Fighter. According to the laboratory scientist cum PhD student, the police did not tell him why he was being detained.

“The police were on patrol around the area. They entered my place and asked for the authorisation documents and I said it was an issue that is supposed to be handled by the Delegation of Public Health. They asked me to enter their car, on our way, they returned and carried my equipment to the judicial police,” he narrated to The Post.

The Bio-Chem student, whose clinic’s documents are still in Yaoundé, revealed that he was released thanks to the Deputy State Counsel. According to him, his wife reported the matter to the State Counsel that ordered for his discharge, though the police refused returning his medical tools.

The Researcher lamented that he can’t carry his duties appropriately, because, the police are still keeping his laptop loaded with research documents.

The military lately, have been arresting youths based on their hairstyle and dressing. Locals in neighbourhoods like Molyko (Dirty South and parts of Malingo), Mile 16, Bomaka and Muea continue to live in uncertainty given the volatile sociopolitical situation.
