Cameroon: UB Faculty of Science Celebrates Silver Jubilee In Grand Style

The Faculty of Science in the University of Buea, UB, has celebrated 25 of its existence, on the theme, “Faculty of Science: 25 Years of Service to Humanity and Perspective for Emergence.”

The hallmark of the celebration was the recognition of some outstanding Lecturers who have served the Faculty diligently for the past years.

The Post, reports that the Pioneer Dean of the Faculty and erstwhile Vice Chancellor of the University of Buea, Professor Vincent PK Titanji, was part of the keynote speakers who mounted the rostrum to talk on their experiences and prospects.

Prof. Titanji highlighted how the faculty was founded, challenges it went through since 1993 and how the challenges have shaped the faculty to become a success story today.

According to Prof. Vincent PK Titanji, the pioneer students of the faculty had to travel to Yaoundé to carry out their practicals due to lack of laboratories in UB at the time.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Buea enjoined administrators and Lecturers to make sure that the faculty stays at the forefront of evolution of science, adding that the university’s vision is to see that the faculty continues to record positive results.

He said, “We expect the Faculty of Science to be at the forefront of the evolution of science, to keep up where science is. We do not want them to be rare. That is why the teachers of this faculty to keep publishing their peer review journals. Such journals are published by high profile Professors who ensure that the Faculty does not lag behind in the areas of research.

The faculty used the occasion to award prizes to lecturers, best graduating undergraduate student within the last 25 years, best graduating undergraduate male student within the last 25 years among others.
