Activists of the ‘Brigade Anti Sardinard’ and supporters of President Paul Biya’s Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) party will clash in Geneva Switzerland on Saturday, June 29, 2019, Cameroon-info.net has learnt.

Cameroon's Ambassador to Switzerland Leonard Henri Bindzi has called on his countrymen in the Diaspora not to heed to calls for a mass anti-Biya protest, inviting Swiss authorities to take appropriate measures to frustrate the plans of the protesters.

Bindzi says they have learned from various sources that Cameroonian nationals residing in various European countries plan to organize a violent demonstration in Geneva on Saturday, June 29, 2019 to protests against the presence of Cameroon’s Head of State, President Paul Biya in Switzerland.

He condemns the initiators of the “barbaric project” in a communiqué dated June 24, 2019. He writes: “While condemning such a barbarous project which does not honour its initiators, nor all those who propose to join in, the Embassy, which has taken all the necessary measures in accordance with diplomatic practice and law, in relation to the competent authorities of the host country, warns against the personal risks incurred by the violators of  the regulations in force in Switzerland, as well as against the possible evasions of the violent actions of vandalism envisaged at the Intercontinental Hotel.”

Cameroon's Ambassador to Switzerland invites all Cameroonians resident in Switzerland and those resident in neighbouring countries to turn their back on the protests that have only gone to preach hate, violence and tribalism; things which are at variance with patriotism and love for country.

Leonard Henri Bindzi urges both parties to work for the peace, harmony and living together that characterizes Switzerland and its people firmly opposed to any act of vandalism and disorder on their soil.

CPDM Switzerland To Confront Anti-Biya Protesters

On their part, members of President Paul Biya’s Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM party have said they will come out forcefully to counter any anti-Biya protests in Geneva on Saturday.

In a communiqué signed by the CPDM Switzerland Section President Benjamin Sakem and Secretary General Angeline Henzen, the CPDM says it has learned with dissatisfaction a planned protest demonstration to disturb the tranquillity of their National President Paul Biya who is on a short stay in Switzerland.

The communiqué says CPDM party supporters in Switzerland will confront members of the ‘Brigade Anti Sardinard’ face to face on Saturday June 29, 2019, in addition to measures taken by the Cameroonian Ambassador to secure the embassy building and the Intercontinental Hotel on that day.

Since winning the October 7, 2018 presidential elections, protests have swelled against President Biya at home and abroad. Protesters are asking for sweeping electoral reforms that should pave the way for a new leader.
