Eyango was selected based on her work on economic opportunities for women and women's political participation in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Swanee Hunt Award for Advancing Women's Role in Policy Formulation is an annual interagency award. United States Department of State Swanee Hunt Award for Advancing Women's Role in Policy Formulation Presented to Vijitha Eyango For your tireless efforts to broaden women's economic opportunities and political participation particularly in Iraq and Afghanistan after years of repression had left women there uneducated, unskilled and without the tools required to assume their rightful productive role in society. Your extraordinary contribution has helped these women play a vital role in the reconstruction and democratization of these two countries. November 2004.
