Sisiku Ayuk Tabe Julius, President of the 'Federal Republic of Ambazonia' has in a letter to Cameroon's Minister of State, Minister of Justice and Keeper of the Seals said he, along with his co-accused, will embark on a hunger strike Wednesday, July 31, 2019 if nothing is said of those exfiltrated from the Buea and Yaounde Central Prisons after last week's riots.

Writing from the Kondengui Principal Prison in a letter dated Tuesday, July 30, 2019, Sissiku Julius Ayuk Tabe brought to the attention of Cameroon's Minister of Justice and Keeper of the Seals their decision to protest by way of hunger strike beginning the wee hours of Wednesday, July 31, 2019.

The Ambazonia leader wrote on behalf of among others, his nine co-accused – Dr. Nfor Ngala Nfor, Barrister Shufai Blaise Sevidzem Berinyuy, Dr. Cornelius Njikimbi Kwanga, Dr Fidelis Nde Che, Egbe Ogork, Barrister Eyambe Elias, Che Augustine Awasum Wilfred Tassang Fombang and Dr Ojong Nkongho.

"The strike is triggered by the disappearance of our compatriots from the Kondengui Central Prison and the Buea Central Prison, following their peaceful protests on the 22nd July,  2019 and 23rd July, 2019 respectively. This strike will go effective if by the close of business today, 30/07/2019, our lawyers do not confirm that they have met some of our people, particularly Mancho Bibixy, Penn Terence, Tsi Conrad, Ngalim Felix, Tita Tebit,Che Luther, Tang George among others," read the declaration of hunger strike signed by Sisiku Julius Ayuk Tabe with copies sent to the diplomatic community.

Contrary to rumors that Mancho Bibixy had been killed at the SED (State Secretariat for Defense) detention facility, Mancho was seen in a photo beaming with smiles by Minister Jean de Dieu Momo over the weekend.

Bibixy Mancho is one of no less than 177 detainees exfiltrated from the Kondengui Central Prison and taken into custody at the police and gendarmerie as part of judicial inquiry into the protests that rocked the detention facility last July 22, 2019.

A trusted source says that Mancho is doing okay, and has been cleared along with some others of any wrong doing during the protests. It is even said that he did his best to calm the situation at the Kondengui Central Prison.

Cameroon-info.net recalls that on Monday, some detainees at the Central Kondengui Prison went amok supposedly over claims of poor detention conditions and lengthy pre-trial detentions.

The protests turned violent with the burning of some structures at the detention facility. Two detainees were wounded by their peers. 177 persons are believed to be at the police and gendarmerie where investigations are ongoing.

In Buea during Tuesday's riot, the food store and reserves and the office of discipline were reportedly set alight. Two security forces were wounded while 43 detainees were injured.

At least 20 inmates are now in the custody of the police in Buea as investigations heat up.

Government spokesman Rene Emmanuel Sadi said the genuine grievances of detained compatriots will be given due consideration. He said the justice system "is working in all sovereignty but in a progressive manner to hear and determine the cases of these protesting detainees in all objectivity and fairness in compliance with the procedures in force."

Sadi said "in any event and beyond their insurgency, the government remains attentive to the appeals of these detained compatriots. The government will continue to work within the scope of its responsibilities to ensure that the procedures in progress are carried out in due diligence and that the independence of the judiciary is strictly respected."

Despite government’s announcement that no life was lost in both prison riots, separatists remain bent that government has something she is hiding.

Sisiku Ayuk Tabe says their hunger strike is also the result of the brutal torture to comma of a member of their defense team by elements of the gendarmerie among other grievances.
