Ten national trade unions of workers in the road transport sector in Cameroon have Tuesday, July 2, 2019 signed a communiqué distancing themselves from the anti-Biya regime protests being organised and staged by the “Brigade Anti-Sadinards”.

“Following the June 29, 2019 protest in Geneva by some of our Cameroonian brothers and sisters, we, National Presidents of transporters’ unions vehemently condemn this anti-patriotic attitude. Which Cameroon are we pretending to defend by tarnishing its image or bring to ridicule in the eyes of the world?” the unionists wondered.

The representatives of workers in the transport sector say the activities of the Brigade Anti-Sadinards do not honour the Cameroonian people whether or not the grievances are legitimate.

Hear them: “…We are vexed at this practice which does not honour the Cameroonian people. Claims or dissatisfactions legitimate or not, are framed by multitudes citizen approaches as well as appropriate cards well inscribed in our fundamental texts for this purpose.

“For, it must be recalled that the greatness of a people is the defence of the values that found it. We believed it yesterday, we believe it today and we will always believe it.”

Faithful to their Cameroonian citizenship and patriotism, the unionists strongly “condemn with firmness these despicable agents and reiterate our unwavering commitment to the scrupulous respect of our institutions, among which the highest is the President of the Republic of Cameroon, His Excellency Paul Biya, who is the Head of State and not the head of certain Cameroonians.”

The ten national trade unions of workers in the road transport sector, through their presidents, say they “are proud and jealous of our dear and beautiful country Cameroon, beyond certain principles, that we must together perfect in harmony.

“We call on all road transport stakeholders to be more patriotic, vigilant and mature. For, we will all pass way, but Cameroon will remain.”

This position of transporters may well be in line with Government’s call on its citizens to be more patriotic in the face of the acts carried out by the “Brigade Anti-Sardinards”.

On June 29, 2019, Cameroon’s Minister of Communication Rene Emmanuel Sadi condemned the double demonstrations staged by members of the “Brigade Anti-Sardinards” in Geneva, Switzerland Tuesday June 25 and Saturday June 29, 2019.

The Minister frowned at members of the “illegal” group displaying “unpatriotic behaviour” and trying to rub the country in mud.

“The government of the republic expresses the indignation of the entire Nation and strongly denounces such inadmissible behaviour likely to tarnish Cameroon’s image, and which should be condemned by all beyond any consideration,” Saturday’s ministerial release read in part.

Minister Sadi enjoins Cameroonians to respect President Paul Biya who incarnates the institution of state. He said President Biya is neither the president of any group nor tribe nor political formation, but the President of all Cameroonians and as such should earn the respect of the all Cameroonians.

“Any Cameroonian, whoever they may be, wherever they may come from, no matter their political leanings must respect the institutions…consequently the one who embodies the said institutions…,” Sadi said as he denounced the “unspeakable hostility and aggressiveness against the one who…is presiding over the destiny of the Cameroonian Nation”.

Nevertheless, Sadi hailed the “patriotic attitude” of some other Cameroonians in the diaspora who according to him “distance themselves from such shameful acts.”

On Tuesday June 25, members of the Brigade Anti-Sardinards attempted to break into a Geneva-based hotel in Switzerland, where President Paul Biya and wife Chantal Biya are reported to be holidaying.

On Saturday June 29, they once more took to the streets of Geneva before being called to order by the Swiss police.
