In a position statement signed Saturday, August 10, 2019 by SDF National Chairman Ni John Fru Ndi, an ordinary session of the party’s National Executive committee, NEC blames President Paul Biya for the crisis in the first place.

The position statement signed by Fru Ndi says it is incumbent on President Biya “not only to bring the civil war to an end, but also provide a definitive solution that will create an enabling environment for children to return to school in September 2019 and for elections to take place.”

Should President Biya fail to heed to the SDF call, the opposition party says they will be obliged to boycott the November budgetary session of parliament: “failure to which the SDF shall be obliged to withhold its Parliamentarians from attending the November 2019 session. If elections are convened and held under the present circumstances, the SDF will not participate and this will tantamount to breaking the country into two.”

The new position of the SDF may not be unconnected to separatist calls for the withdrawal of SDF lawmakers from Yaoundé after they abducted Fru Ndi in April and June this year.

In fact, Cameroon-info.net understands that Ni John Fru Ndi was twice kidnapped by armed men believed to be loyal to the putative state of Ambazonia whose independence they seek – Ambazonia is a geographical allusion to Cameroon’s North West and South West Regions.

Kidnapped by armed men Friday, June 28, 2019 at about 3:30pm, Cameroon’s fiery opposition leader Ni John Fru Ndi regained his freedom at 9:30pm on Saturday, June 29, 2019.

The National Chairman of the opposition Social Democratic Front, SDF, party upon his release said he was dragged out of his Ntarinkon residence in Bamenda like a pig after one of his bodyguards had been shot in the leg.

“They dragged me like a pig. I was nothing better than a pig…They dragged me out of the car, through some muddy places, no shoes on my feet and took me into what they called a cell. They placed me there until I had a bamboo bed. If you look here carefully, they knocked me with their gun about five times. They gave me two blows on the stomach and said see how big his stomach,” Fru Ndi said.

At the separatist camp, where he was called a blackleg by some fighters, he was accused by others of masterminding the killing of their members in Baba, Santa Subdivision, where Fru Ndi’s house was burnt down by armed separatists. The Chairman said he told them that the military shot the boys and not him.

According to Fru Ndi, his kidnappers forced him to record a video where he had to declare that he would ask SDF members of the National Assembly, Senators and Councillors to resign within 24 hours.

“They said we want you to declare on our cameras that you would get your people out of Parliament, out of Senate and out of councils in the next 24 hours. You have to say it here and now,” he recounted. The Chairman said he told them that he wouldn’t do such at gunpoint and had to know why they were targeting only SDF parliamentarians. He however promised them off camera, to take a different strategy, which he didn’t say to journalists.

“I will go to Yaoundé, meet my parliamentarians, senators and get the mayors, we sit down and discuss and look at the best way of doing it. We have our own approach to the crisis,” the Chairman reassured his abductors.

Fru Ndi was first kidnapped by armed men [fighting for the independence of a country they call Ambazonia] in Kumbo on Saturday, April 27, 2019 and only freed after over half a dozen hours in "detention".

The National Chairman of the Social Democratic Front (SDF) party was heading a delegation to Kumbo to bury Hon.  Banadzem Joseph Lukong, the party's group leader at the National Assembly when he was taken into "custody" by gunmen.
