Nick Ngwanyam, Medical Doctor and Owner of St.Louis University Institute Bamenda/Douala has made a flattering evaluation of the first 100 days of Dion Ngute Joseph as Cameroon's Prime Minister, Head of Government.

The CPDM Senator that never was describes Dion Ngute as “a man of courage and wisdom”.

“People are chosen by God for a season. Sometimes God chooses some people who fail to deliver and that is why there are sins of omission. Some people throw their weights around a little too carelessly thus causing more harm than good to the very people they are supposed to protect,” the medic cum politician writes,  adding that, “This is where wisdom makes the difference and H.E. Dion Ngute has wisdom and courage.”

Dion Ngute was President Biya's pick for the Star Building in a cosmetic surgery on Government on January 4, 2019.
Ngwanyam writes that in politics and management, these first 100 days are a good indicator of what shall happen in the next 10 or 20 years down the road.

He says attentive persons can read the writing on the wall and tell in which direction the wind shall continue to blow and what the expectations are. An eagle will continue to be an eagle, he says, while a donkey will not change its ways.

“Watch what they do and you have a clue which is the sheep and which is the goat. If a guy is weak it comes through very easily. If he is a go getter, you can tell. If he is a rambler you see it,” said the unrepentant follower of President Biya's ruling Cameroon People's Democratic Movement (CPDM).

In the light of this understanding, Ngwanyam says he applied the SWOT ANALYSIS Technique to the current PM and his activities and contrasted that with those of his predecessors.

“I looked at his character for starters. Is he honest and trustworthy? Does he have self-discipline? Does he like work that is well done? Which God or ‘god’ does he worship? Is he powerdrunk and materialistic? Does he have respect for mother earth (nature) and all that God has put in there including the people? What does he think about preserving human life and the people God has entrusted in his care? Does he respect them as human beings or does he see them as cannon fodder? Does he like blood money?” Ngwanyam asks.

He goes on to ponder: “What is his [Dion Ngute’s] understanding of truth? Can he stand absolute truth or would he tell lies to the President to protect his position? Does he articulate well with the base and Etoudi? PM Dion Ngute comes in at a special moment in the life of the nation that is going downhill for several reasons.

“On December 31,  2013, H.E. President Paul Biya blamed the government for its poor governance, inertia and inability to solve the nation’s problems. He said they were corrupt and cared more about personal wealth than common good. This practice did not change because tigers do not change their spots.

“So PM Dion Ngute comes in at a very trying moment when the nation is groaning under the weight of death, decay, violence, a poor economy and indiscipline.

“The youths have no work. They are piling on our streets looking for jobs and bread. That is a time bomb. Those that left school were poorly trained with no marketable skills. Civil servants are lazy and stealing from the common purse. The private sector is not developing because we have not given it the right fertilizers to compete on the world market. We have not protected our local production. We kill our own industries and live on imported rice and fish. Then we drink wine and water from across the seas.

“The development is retarded because of corruption and our inability to solve problems.
“It is in the light of these difficulties that H.E. President Paul Biya had to look for someone with the charisma, understanding of the current issues and the spine strong enough to rise up to the challenges. He needed someone who would create and bring on board the new mindset; the paradigm shift. The man he chose was and is H.E. Dion Ngute. He made the right choice. So, is he up to the task so far? Yes; a resounding yes. He is.”

Ego-Massage or Truth?

Ngwanyam writes that: “First of all he [Dion Ngute] has a warm and welcoming personality. He is people oriented and not cold and distant from his folk. He knows people and pays attention to them. There is no way you can succeed at anything if you do not pay attention to people and respect them.

“Secondly he looks, talks and acts intelligently. When talking to a crowd of people, he has positive body language which is engaging. He does not plant his nose into his scripts all the time without making eye contact which is very necessary in communication and human interaction.  By so doing, he pulls people to himself and gives them hope because there is bonding in love.

“He does not speak in French all the time at meetings like most Anglophone PMs and Ministers do. He uses both languages liberally. The others behave(d) as though they were seeking to please someone by not speaking publicly in English. Inferiority complex is such a bad thing. It can kill. Then when some of them want to play the superiority card, it is a disaster.”

In what has stunned many given the socio-political upheavals plaguing the country, especially the crisis in the North West and South West Regions, Ngwanyam claims that “Dion Ngute’s greatest gift is that he has problem solving skills.” Many are now wondering how these skills have helped solve the problems in the restive Anglophone regions.

“He is trying to see that we increase our national productivity, improve our agriculture, stop importation of many things that we can produce and so on.
“He has stopped these ministers from going abroad for uncalled for meetings just to rob the state of hard earned currency. He is putting some discipline in the house and other ministers are beginning to respect him more than they respected his predecessor because he knows and understands how to play friends with his old buddies yet being firm. He is results oriented and is not a people pleaser dancing to the gallery,” Ngwanyam says without any empirical justification.

He however calls on Dion Ngute to continue to work with the Fear of the Lord, and “he will continue to succeed. The day he abandons the ways of the Lord, he will fail.”

Word of caution

Ngwanyam cautions the Prime Minister to guard against listening only to his “village people”.

“As a matter of caution, I will draw his attention to people who gravitate around him because they come from the same village, division and that kind of crap. If he pays attention to them, these people will use his name and commit crimes or create a lot of havoc in his name.
“They will poison his mind. He should stay away from the ‘tribe’ mentality otherwise he would be drowned by his own very people who pretend to love him but are rather catering to their stomachs.
“There is still a lot of work to be done. He should improve on industrial Agriculture and  Animal Husbandry that can create 2 million jobs for youths in two years and we can save FCFA 300 billion yearly for our youths as we stop importing food.
“He should pay attention to the hygiene and sanitation in our ministries and public buildings including roads, waterways and homes. These are very dirty and not well looked after. He should build more markets and free the roads and walkways of traders. Old vehicles that clutter our streets everywhere should be cleared to ease traffic everywhere. The list is long.
“Our commitment as a people is to help our PM H.E. Dion Ngute to succeed. If he does, we shall have a better nation.
“Above all he should do all in his power to stop the ongoing war in the North West and South West regions as well as the violence in the North. Only God shall lead him to success and nothing else. He is not a CPDM PM. He is PM for everybody including Jews and Gentiles. Good luck.”

“Change the educational system, Mr Prime Minister”
“If the PM wants to help Cameroon, if he wants to achieve more, if he wants to be remembered in years to come,” Ngwanyam advises Dion Ngute to “help to change the educational system in Cameroon.”
“This should train youths who can solve our problems. Capacity building is crucial. We lack it,” Ngwanyam states.
“That is the fundamental cause of the war and violence. Our collective human capacity development index is very POOR.  We have schools and universities that teach everything and skip the development of human capacity. If this is not corrected, the Prime Minister would be wasting his time,” says Ngwanyam.

It should be noted that Nick Ngwanyam is frontline member of the North West/South West Peace Movement for the Cessation of Violence. The movement is the initiative of Ngwanyam and his CPDM comrades like Hon. Chief Norbert Mbile and Hon. Francis Enwe.
