Sources have confirmed the Mayor of Buea Council, Ekema Patrick has given up the ghost this Sunday, October 27,after a heart attack in Douala.

Relatives have confirmed the news, which has come as a shock who admired the fire brand administrator.

A popular mayor who was known for his intolerance towards separatists actions. He succeeded in making the headquarters of the South West region, calm and serene, unlike the city of Bamenda in the North West.

He forced his citizens to open shops and work on ghost town days imposed by separatists. He was not loved by many for his believes and actions. However, with the continuous attacks on civilians from separatists, some started seeing reasons with his actions.

Their hate, didn’t stop Mayor Ekema from achieving the goals set by his council at the beginning of the year. If today, schools are going on in Buea and markets are open on Mondays, it is thanks to his efforts. He helped in creating vigilante groups all over the city of Buea to fight criminal activities.

He was often appreciated by the Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji as the best mayor in Cameroon. He was accorded the most persecuted politician award in the Cameroon by the Guardian Post newspaper.

Along with his deputies, Mayor Ekema Patrick was installed by the former SDO for Fako Sang III, on Friday November 22, 2013 few weeks after he defended his masters thesis in History, at the University of Buea.

He was one of those few mayors, privileged to host the President Paul Biya in Buea during celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the Reunification of Cameroon.
