Sen. Kemende talking to the press after stormy Senate opening W. Musa
Just like Hon. Wirba Joseph took the Lower House of Parliament by storm in November 2016 on the Anglophone crisis, Senator Kemende of the Social Democratic Front party, SDF, has made an unprecedented outing at the opening of the Senate Session, the first for the five year mandate of newly elected and appointed Senators.

The legal Mind was interested in the standing orders of the house which prohibits a Senator from holding other functions other than which he was elected.

In this regard, he challenged Senator Nfon VE Mukete who is the eldest member of the Senate but still enjoying his functions as Board Chairman of Cameroon Telecommunication Company, CAMTEL.

He also challenged the eligibility of the youngest member of the Senate.By questioning the position of the Paramount ruler of the Bafaws, Senator Kemende has just exposed an old practice which has eaten deep into the bones of law makers. They make laws but fail to abide by them.

Holding an elective position and an appointed position like that of Senator Nfon VE Mukete is not accepted by the law but he held both position for five years of the existence of the Senate.

Senator Kemende’s action made him man of the day and has been likened by Social Media users to be the Wirba Joseph at the Senate House.

The Senate provisional Bureau has been constituted while waiting for May when the Commission of inquiry must have scrutinized the files of all Senators to fish out cases of incompatibility.

It is expected that the case of Senator Nfon VE Mukete will be looked into.
