As predicted by Cameroon-Info.Net, Bakoma Elango Zacheus and Chief Atem Ebako Bisong Andrew have been elected as President of the South West Regional Council and House of Chiefs respectively.
The duo won the confidence of all 90 Regional Councilors of the South West Region during the maiden session of right in Buea Tuesday, December 22, 2020.
Buea was in a festive mood following the election of retired Divisional Officer Bakoma Elango Zacheus from Meme Division to lead the Regional Council as well as the election of seven other bureau members to assist him.
Banners flew high in Buea ahead of the session, as the South West Region welcomed the Special Status conferred on her by the Law to Institute the General Code on Regional and Local Authorities. Section 327 (1) of the cited law says, “The North-West and South-West Regions shall have a special status in accordance with the provisions of Article 62 of the Constitution.”
Like the North West Region, the South West Region has been conferred a specific organizational and operational regime, based on its historical, social, and cultural values, with due respect for the primacy of the State and national unity and solidarity.
South West Governor, Bernard Okalia Bilai enjoined the regional councilors and the pioneer executive bureau to work towards promoting economic development and social progress as well as contribute to the harmonious, balanced, supportive, and sustainable territorial development of the region.
He urged them to maintain a high sense of patriotism, objectivity, impartiality while carrying out their functions as regional councilors and representatives of the house of chiefs.
