It is said that the reaction of the Mbororos on Monday June 3, 2019 follows the killing of one of theirs, a certain Aladji Dere Shefu in Naikom by armed men believed to be fighting for the restoration of the independence of a country they call Ambazonia.
The armed men, otherwise called Amba Boys, are said to have attacked the village Sunday demanding for ‘support’. Those who could not give the said support were reportedly beaten and their houses destroyed. About five persons were said to have been injured before the armed men retreated.
Earlier on Thursday, the Amba Boys are alleged to have wreaked havoc in Upkwa village – burning homes and killing livestock belonging to the Mbororos.
Machetes, harmers and clubs in hand, a group of men and children believed to be Mbororos head to Naikom, promising to kill even mothers after enduring much pain from Amba Boys. Those recording the videos, believed to be soldiers, claim to be helpless in the face of the uprising.
“Those are Mbororo people who have decided to face it out with Amba Boys. They are unstoppable. We have done what we could do but they are going into the town to burn, destroy and beat (…) there is nothing we can do. We will only take the injured to the hospital. We will save what we can save. That is the actual situation…There are many such groups throughout the town,” a soldier could be overheard saying in a video.
Two persons are said to have been killed in the Kecha neighbourhood in Wum, while a man of advanced age cheated death after he was burnt in his home. A voice in a video, speaking in French, says the furious Mbororos had set fire on the old man.
The old man could be seen agonising in the said video and being rescued by an old woman, a young boy and a little girl as soldiers are overhead running commentaries and shooting a cell phone video, instead of going to his rescue.
Randy Joe Sa’ah had on May 28, 2019 wept for his beloved Menchum. “The crisis in Cameroon is festering. Zombies have gone lose. Soldiers and armed groups are on rampage. The river of blood is swelling. The atrocities are giving birth. The pain is too much, but the leaders are having fun,” he said in a Facebook post.
Uneasy calm is said to have returned to the area, but many locals are yet to regain their homes apparently afraid of the unknown.
