The Manager of Foundation Radio Bamenda has expressed regrets over the fact that his radio station was targeted by an armoured car, which shot indiscriminately along the Bamenda-Bafut road in the North West region, while patrolling the Mile 6 neighbourhood on Wednesday.

Mokun Njouny Nelson explained that some three armoured cars had been deployed to the Ngomgham neighbourhood to control rising insecurity in the area, until one of the vehicles started shooting indiscriminately, which hit the upper floor of the media house also hosting The Fomunyoh Foundation ( TFF).

“ One of the armoured cars stationed itself right at the entrance into the Foundation Radio premises, the second at the Mile 6 junction on the Bamenda - Bafut road, and the third drove around the quarter, firing shoots randomly and indiscriminately in quick succession. Foundation Radio had its share as bullets got into the upper floor of the structure that is also head office of The Fomunyoh Foundation (TFF)”, he recounted.

Fortunately the workers on hearing gunshots, had slept on the floor and no one was subsequently injured. He revealed that a shop owner was arrested that same day and no one knows why he was taken.

To him, this was clear evidence that the population of the North West and South West regions were at risk, calling on various stakeholders to end the war.

“Yesterday’s incident reaffirms the general feeling that populations of the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon may be living on bonus life. We, once again, appeal to all stakeholders involved in the crisis to fast track any peace process and spare the populations of these Regions the troubles they are currently going through . The killings and atrocities are taking a heavy toll on us all”, he continued.

This incident comes barely few days after soldiers stormed the Kumbo Lake Site Radio and seized the airwaves, forcing the media house to let arrested armed separatists share testify against the movement.

Elements of the Rapid Intervention Battalion, the BIR visited the radio and asked a presenter to interview some two suspected Amba Boys, who had dropped their weapons.

Journalists and media houses are constantly under attacks as the crisis continues in the Anglophone region and Cameroon in general.
