The South West Delegate General for National Security Ngenga Jean Marie had enjoined the new Mutengene Police Commissioner to be vigilant, tactical and demonstrate a sense of understanding in handling the town located in Tiko sub division, Fako division.

He made the call Tuesday March 7, 2017 during the installation ceremony of Lazare Ndoumbe as new Police Commissioner in Mutengene.

The regional boss said Mutengene is a town with social complexity with acts of vandalism, banditry, harassments which must be handled with iron hands but tactically because according to him, the people of that area are unpredictable.

Eric Lazare Ndoumbe replaces Ali Pierre who was sacked by a presidential decree on March 3, 2017 days after the incident which took place in Mutengene on night of February 22 to 23. Some unidentified men estimated at over 100 stormed the premises of the Police station set prisoners free and vandalized the office of Commissioner, they later placed the corpse of one of theirs believed to have been killed by police.

The men also burnt part of Government Bilingual High School in Mutengene demanding answers from the police after a 36 year old man died in unclear circumstances.

The people of Mutengene want the new Police boss to stop rampant theft and harassment in the area which is noted for high rate of theft and insecurity.

Before his appointment, Eric Lazare Ndoumbe was the chief of General Investigation at the regional delegation for National Security for the South West. He has also served as interim commissioner of Muea.

He is well abreast with the town given that he once was part of it before his transfer to Buea.
