A project to build a four-star hotel in Douala, Littoral region will soon go operation, following an agreement reached between the Development Bank of Central African States, BDEAC and the Commercial Bank of Cameroon, CBC.
The project worth over FCFA 4.5 billion, will have among other structures, 125 standard rooms, five rooms for persons living with disabilities and 20 suites, in an attempt to boost the country's economy.
According to an official statement on the project, it is expected to cut down unemployment by creating over 200 jobs.
" This project will contribute to strengthening the country's gross domestic product and reducing unemployment through the creation of about 122 direct jobs during its implementation phase, and 156 direct jobs during its exploitation phase", it read.
It is expected that this project will not only crest jobs but will boost the tourism and leisure sector in Cameroon, since it is close to Limbe in the South West region, a main tourist hub in the coastal zone of Cameroon.
As Cameroon prepares to host the 2021 African Cup of Nations, it is envisaged that the hotel will serve as a place of rest to tourists and host other teams taking part in the competition.
The Littoral region currently has 134 hotels, four four-star hotels and classic 11 three-star hotels. The Centre region tops the list of hotels in Cameroon, with about 172 hotels and it has the lone five-star hotel in the country known as Hilton Hotel.
