The Fifth installment of financial support from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), has witnessed a delay after stakeholders postponed a meeting initially scheduled for it.

Cameroon would have by June 26, 2019 received over FCFA 50 Billion from the IMF, but no reason has been given for the delay. However, officials of the Ministry of Finance denied claims that the IMF had postponed the agreement because Cameroon failed to honour some terms.

An official statement in this regard, has been issued, stating that the different crises rocking the nation had caused the delay in processing files that were supposed to be received by the Board of Directors of the IMF.

This comes after Cameroon had already reviewed the fourth quarterly economic and financial programme being implemented in Cameroon by the IMF, with the assistance of Breton Woods institution.

IMF's African Department Division Chief, Corinne Deléchat, who led the mission for the fourth review for the Extended Credit Facility arrangement with Cameroon had praised the outcome of the fourth review, stating Cameroon had met all the criterion.

"Based on the evidence we now have, we are confident that we can bring the review to the Board in late June", she said.

Despite this hint on the possibility of the organisation to approve the fifth tranche after the review, the meeting that had to take place to validate the fifth tranche is yet to hold.

The IMF had already granted Cameroon FCFA 245 Billion, under the economic program. Cameroon is still expecting over FCFA 328 Billion in budget support under the three-year economic and financial programme, that started in 2017, with contributions from the African Development Bank, the World Bank, the French Development agency and the European Union.
